we're looking at basically having two domains:
Sounds like an excellet idea. Perhaps use the freedom, and choose
something meaningful for the grant-making side of the business:
Open Radio Foundation
fundingamateur.radio
Social Tech Trust
(etc).

with difficulty
Probably very few difficulties. There isn't that much in common; so
gradually separating/disentanging:
AMPRNet <-> CAIDA Network Telescope <-> $100m grant-making business
has the chance of providing positve clarity for all three directions.
