Hi there
My gateway (44.138.1.1) tunnel get the commercial IP host name from
no-ip.com and the
UCSD router use this name to resolve the IP and make tunnel to it since it use dynamic
IP
every time that this hos is in some reason not resolvable the UCSD takes it out from
the routing table and i get no route to it anymore
Even when the host is resolvable again
the only solution is to write Chris and ask him to fix it for me
There seems to be some misunderstanding in how the gateway system works for dynamic hosts,
allow me to explain:
If a gateway entry on the Portal does NOT have a hostname set, i.e. it only has an IP
address specified, then it is always included in the encap file and no further checks are
carried out.
If a gateway entry on the Portal has a hostname set, the Portal tries to resolve the
hostname every 5 minutes.
If the name resolution fails the gateway entry is disabled and it will not be included in
the next build of the encap file.
If name resolution succeeds it then checks that the IP address is a valid, publicly
routable IP, if this check fails (e.g. the IP resolves to a RFC1918 IP), the gateway is
disabled and will not be included in the next build of the encap file.
Only if the name resolution succeeds and the resulting IP is a valid, publicly route
address, does it include the gateway in the next build of the encap file.
The 5 minute check includes any previously disabled gateways and if the name resolution
subsequently succeeds, the gateway is automatically re-enabled and included in the encap
file.
Has anyone seen this thing at his system ?
Is there any thing i can do to make the route back ?
Or (prefered) can any mechanism be add to ucsd that when a certain host get resolved
again the route will come back without any intervention by human ?
The problem seems to be with resolving the hostname, there are a regular list of gateways
that constantly fail. Here is the latest list from a few minutes ago, if your gateway is
on the list you might want to check your hostname is correct and resolvable:
