Be sure review the baud rate and bandwidth limitations on the 70cm band.
Even ignoring the regs, I have seen attempts cause QRM across a utilized
70cm band.

All,
I'm very interested in this. I could integrate this with plans for my
section to implement 420 MHz and 900MHz HSMM connected to AMPRNet.
At this point, we only need the funds for access points, wi-fi cards and
linear amplifier(s) (just the bare hardware). All the configurations, etc.
are on the WIki. I believe I worked with Steve a few months ago; but
funding has become the hold-up in the Washngton, DC area.
I could put together a case document where we would use HSMM/AMPRNet to
stand-up a Red Cross station or one of our supported hospital centers.
Let me know...
