Actually that's a good idea, would others be interested? if so, any preference on a
protocol for the data exchange or doesn't it matter? I.e. if I make up my own
proprietary system as long as it's published on the wiki with some sample scripts?

I have started work on an API that will allow straight forward querying of the gateways

As you do this, can you please give consideration to implementing an event-push system as
well as supporting polling?
