For our uses 10/8 could be managed the same way 44/8 is with no duplication
in our network. Simply replace 44 with 10. The only difference being

It's not that simple. It might work if amateurs are only one to use it,
but they are not.
I have 10.* in my home.
I have 10.* in my company, actually 10.* in each company's office.
I have 10.* in our city wireless community.
I have 10.* in our national wireless network that connects all local
wireless communities.
I have 10.* in most private lans of my clients that I connect to via VPN.
It is really hard to avoid conflicts there.
