I would recommend the use of gitea over gitlab. Upgrading gitlab to stay
current addressing security concerns is a significant admin effort in
comparison.

Paul I think you misunderstood my position.
It is great idea to use a service like gitlab. But we need to be carefull
sbout how we do it.
Never said that we need to use github at all.
