I suggested leasing the space out to provide income
Leasing would have been incompatible with UCSD Network Telescope ops.
The situation is different now, ARDC exists, and has a board of mostly
hams, a TAC of mostly hams---ARDC now has (vastly) more funds than
CAIDA and can afford to fund its own infrastructure, if desired.
Is there something special I am missing here?
Globally available non-clashing radio spectrum.
Globally available non-clashing address space.
We're entering the post-radio age of amateur radio: the comms are now
IP over commodity hardware. The ethos is hopefully still there.
Or is this a good place to sell while the market is
way up there
for IP space?
Perhaps wait another 5 years + evaluate. Selling could be a good
idea, if discussed openly and transparently...
