Dear All,
My two pennies about it from Polish perspective.
I do not like Facebook, I fully understand its conflict with my concept
of freedom and I have been fighting with a need of having an account
till 2014, when some other reasons forced me to do so.
However, facts are as follows. Polish usenet group
pl.rec.radio.amatorskie is currently an uninhabited island. Although
Polish usenet is in quite good condition (opposite to opinions in
another thread), only electronic group (pl.rec.elektronika) is alive
among topics similar to radio. There are several foras with some ham
discussion, but the activity is very limited there.
On the contrary, the FB group for Polish hams has currently more than
2000 subscribers (when there are similar number of active licenses and
even taking into the account that not every member is a ham, there are
majority of hams here) and the discussion is so alive, that I am not
able to read everything even logging every day.
So, what to do? There is no chance to advise 2000 people to move
anywhere else. So I simply browse this group to be up-to-date. The same
situation is with several other hobbies I am involved in.
This post is not an advise to create FB group (as I also think its a bad
idea as this will split discussion to several places), nor any advise to
make an FB account. But in many cases FB cannot be simply ignored.
