I'm not sure if your solution if free; I use Cacti on Ubuntu:
http://cacti.net/
On Ubuntu:
sudo apt-get install cacti
then navigate to http://<IP ADDRESS/cacti/
To make visual maps, I use the Network Weathermap plugin for Cacti:
