You can apply for a grant now -- you would need to get a 'fiscal sponsor'
which is a 501(c)(3), school, or government entity. Many clubs and
organizations meet this requirement -- it just means they receive the funds
on your behalf and administer them (you can include a little 'overhead'
expense in your grant request to help defray their expense in doing so).
