I hope it wasnt me killing this discussion.
Was it far off to suggest that AMPRnet applies for an Autonomous System
of its own in order to keep 44/8 as a well coordinated ham resource,
even if peering (but not transit) is allowed anywhere, rather than just
splitting up the address space to be announced from any AS?

Completely unnecessary. You just need to announce more specific
prefixes and negotiate transit with your upstreams.
