EU HAMNET as a community of 16 countries will sit together and find out how they plan to deal with that. The internal discussion about that has been started on our internal channels. There is no reason to hesitate because even today EU HAMNET is compatible with 32bit-ASN peering.
Hi Egbert and all,
Here Dani EA4GPZ speaking for the Spanish HAMNET, since I'm probably the most active person in there. I will however raise this ongoing discussion to my colleagues in case anyone wants to join in.
The 42<mcc>xxxxxx proposal sounds fairly reasonable to me, so let's see if there is some consensus for this among the EU HAMNET. In Spain we are in a good position for making the change to 32bit numbering, because we have currently few sites deployed, so the change will be easy.
I think that 32bit numbering is definitely the way to go if one looks to the near future. The current distribution of private 16bit ASN's used in the EU HAMNET is fine for countries such as Germany and Austria, which have plenty of sites, plenty of AS's and all their network infrastructure already built. For the time being, it's also fine for countries where this whole thing is just starting, such as Spain, because we have only very few sites. However, this won't be the case in the future if more people start joining in an many more sites are deployed.

Dani EA4GPZ/M0HXM.
