I hope there is something. Wisconsin is the land of heavy tree cover, and where I am, the geography is pretty flat, so obtaining line-of-site really requires a well connected person/club to get access to commercial tower sites.
So while lower speeds are less desirable, if there is some power behind the thing to go more than a few blocks non line of site, I'll give it a try if it's priced right.
Unless they've come up with a modulation scheme which overcomes the multipath distortion of transmitted symbols, I believe line of sight is practically a necessity.
But I'll be the first to admit that my communications theory knowledge is now many decades old. Perhaps there is a way around it.
