Not sure what you are looking for Ronen.
Let's say you have a gateway at 1.2.3.4 than is the IPIP endpoint for encapsulating 44.29.0.0/16 you want to run traceroute to 1.2.3.4, not 44.29.0.1 to see there is a problem getting to the gateway.
