My proxies, etc are currently on BGP routed IPs, so they're accessible from the wider Internet. At this point in time, accessibility from non BGP routed IPs is limited by the performance of the UCSD gateway. As I was affected by this myself, I implemented a private solution for my needs, to enable a more direct route.
One of my points was that Internet connectivity is not always the desired end goal, and in some situations can be counter productive.
