Thank you for the vote of confidence, but although I've been
managing the network since the late 80's, I've only been handling
the mailing list since late 2012 when it was moved here from
cows.net. It was a mailing list on
cows.net, but when it was
moved to UCSD, the
cows.net archives didn't come with it. So
UCSD's archives currently only go back to 2012.
My personal archive of the mailing list includes a lot of postings
from the
cows.net days, going back to 2009. Some day, in my copious
free time, I hope to integrate that archive into the main one.
Before
cows.net, the list was known as the 'gateways' mailing list
(I've forgotten the hosting sitename) but those archives were maintained
by a separate ham club elsewhere. They were lost forever when the
hard drive they were stored on crashed and it turned out that there
was no backup.
The current mailing list archives are backed up nightly to a high-availability
redundant fileserver, so it's unlikely THAT will happen again.
