Here a route list on my test setup:
root@server:~# ip ro li table default | grep "via 44." 44.0.0.0/8 via 44.182.21.254 dev eth1.44 44.24.131.0/24 via 44.24.241.98 dev ampr0 proto 44 metric 90 onlink window 840 44.24.241.98 via 44.182.21.254 dev eth1.44 proto 44 onlink 44.130.119.0/24 via 44.130.121.2 dev ampr0 proto 44 metric 90 onlink window 840 44.130.121.0/24 via 44.130.121.2 dev ampr0 proto 44 metric 90 onlink window 840 44.130.121.2 via 44.182.21.254 dev eth1.44 proto 44 onlink 44.130.122.0/23 via 44.130.122.2 dev ampr0 proto 44 metric 90 onlink window 840 44.130.122.2 via 44.182.21.254 dev eth1.44 proto 44 onlink 44.130.124.0/22 via 44.130.124.2 dev ampr0 proto 44 metric 90 onlink window 840 44.130.124.2 via 44.182.21.254 dev eth1.44 proto 44 onlink 44.131.14.252/31 via 44.131.14.253 dev ampr0 proto 44 metric 90 onlink window 840 44.131.14.253 via 44.182.21.254 dev eth1.44 proto 44 onlink 44.136.150.0/23 via 44.136.150.2 dev ampr0 proto 44 metric 90 onlink window 840 44.136.150.2 via 44.182.21.254 dev eth1.44 proto 44 onlink
As you can see, there is a host route entry for every 44 gateway. Remember, those entries go into the same routing table as the ampr routes, not in the main table.

(Please trim inclusions from previous messages) _______________________________________________ I'm afraid it doesn't work here with version 2.0 Marius and I assume it does this by default as I see no option for it. I checked all those with 44 address endpoints/gateways and no direct routes are added for these. Take for instance "44.130.124.2". I have to add a direct route manually to reach it

Has this new version also the mod so that it adds also a direct route for the next hop gateway address if it is a 44 address in the ipip route and not commercial?

Strangely, I use Debian 8.7 with kernel 3.16 and it works without the '-r' switch.
Actually it seems to be a cach to the Debian 8 IPIP driver: It does not receive traffic before some "internal" activation.
So in my setup, in the network/interfaces file I use the following:
interface ampr0
...
up ping -c 1 -I ampr0 169.228.66.251 > /dev/null 2>&1
...
