this is effectively the model I'm going for in building out my /22 subnet. though I hope for it to eventually spread out via radio links across the southwestern US the point is for my vultr vps to act as a point from which it is announced to the internet and serve as a vpn server to those sites on my network that can manage a terrestrial vpn connection to the internet. each site, will be interconnected via point to point microwave links with most users connecting via RF into one of the radio sites. in that way I have both redundant vpn routes off to the internet via terestrial means, and a route over my network via amateur radio links. in good times, the best route is chosen to internet or not. in times when all hell breaks loose and the internet goes down, even given my redundant links back to my bgp announcing vpn server, I still have the radio network.

the backbone is the POP ardc are proposing to build.
In my idea :
- POPs are the equivalent of our current regional gateways. They are
managed locally by us (sysadmins, coordinators, local teams...), not by ARDC ! Basically, we migrate independent and different systems to a common standardized model.
- ARDC provides backbone for interconnecting POPs all over the world.
This includes network links (to be defined), portal, all required back-office tools, administration, and support for POP maintainers.
