Tom Hayward's script running on another machine and connecting to the
router via ssh is more "energy efficient" and works very well.

Except of course it requires that you have "another machine" capable
of running the script, which because it is written in Python (a very
powerful language) requires that the additional machine have Python
installed. Very few Windows machines have that, and no DOS. It usually
requires Linux, so you're back to square one.
It's my impression that trying to use a conventional router to do the
amprnet mesh is like using a wrench to drive nails -- it can be done
but it's far from the proper tool.
