Hi there
I got few hours ago Mikrotik router
I must say it look impressive from the web interface it have
I have some questions
May anyone send me the commands needed to make an IPIP tunnel (lets start with IPIP Tunnel to the UCSD Router)
and if any route command needed to be add please write it to me as well
Im new to the mikrotik routers but they look very professional certainly comparing the TP-link stuff
2) can a interface of the microtik (say the lan port) have two ip addresses (like the Cisco Router do with the command : ip address a.b.c.d 1.2.3.4 (subnet) secondary ) ?
3) The router lan port have no default gateway and therefore if i connect the router lan (which is also connected to the wifi part of it)
Is there any way to connect the router lan port to the net and have it to be able to get a default gateway ?
Thanks For any help
Regards

Here is a script that will generate all the commands:
https://github.com/kd7lxl/python-amprapi/blob/master/README.md
You can run it with -n to see the commands without issuing them.
The idea behind the script is that you will run it automatically every hour or so to stay in sync with the various gateways on dynamic addresses and newly added gateways.

Thank you Tom Im not familiar with pyton and scripts in general I need the simple commands to do tunnel Maybe you can give me the output of this script so i will know the commands and i will type them to the router Thanks Forward Ronen - 4Z4ZQ http://www.ronen.org

The output of the script depends on what is already configured on your router. The script looks at what's already there and then issues (or prints) the commands required to update it to match the current list of gateways and routes. This changes often, so if I just posted the commands they would likely be outdated by the time you implemented them.
If you set up an SSH account for me on your router, I can run the script from here and email you the output. I can set it up to run with cron so that it emails you the list of commands needed to update it every hour. After a few hours of this, you may understand why it is provided as an automatic script!

Ronen, it was A VERY BAD IDEA to post the admin password to the mailing list. 500 people now know it, and more will learn it. You should change it IMMEDIATELY before someone evil does something bad to your router if indeed it isn't already too late.
I have blocked access to 44.138.1.39 at the UCSD gateway. Tell me when you have changed the password and I will unblock your address. - Brian
Dear Brian Im sorry for the mess i have done i count on the hams (after all we are a close community and the mailing list is private) i dont think any one of us is a Router barker or Hacker and the router is not a router of a critical ISP it sit here only for test purposes (currently) it doesn't deal with any connectivity and if it will totally die nothing will happen to the network so even if some "evil" will flash it i lost 30 Dollars However lucky me im at work (its a day now) and I have enough hosts to Crawl to the router (even after blocking its address) and I have changed his password (now I understand why i have stopped to see from here the online log (the connectivity to the outside world blocked)) You can release the address block Sorry for the trouble Regards Ronen - 4Z4ZQ Tom I will mail you privet the new password

Ok, it's unblocked. You can expect to see an increase in the number of people trying to break in to it for probably the next few months.
With more than 500 subscribers, the mailing list is not private enough to post passwords.

44net networking is designed in manner that is not how standard routers are supposed to work.
Search list archive for Marius YO2LOJ posts about Mikrotik. Recently, he provided the only usable solution.
The best for now is to give up, and use some Linux device (like Raspberry Pi) to set 44networking.
If you really like to use Mikrotik, you can seek for someone who is already connected to allow you access and routing via VPN. There are fellow hams willing to do that.
Pedja YT9TP
Pedja, it is not the only usable solution, and it requires a powerful router.
Tom Hayward's script running on another machine and connecting to the router via ssh is more "energy efficient" and works very well.

Except of course it requires that you have "another machine" capable of running the script, which because it is written in Python (a very powerful language) requires that the additional machine have Python installed. Very few Windows machines have that, and no DOS. It usually requires Linux, so you're back to square one.
It's my impression that trying to use a conventional router to do the amprnet mesh is like using a wrench to drive nails -- it can be done but it's far from the proper tool. - Brian

I believe Linux is required. That script does not work in Windows.

Yes, if you do not count that you have to have another machine. For me that cannot be counted as usable if we speak n context of people who are not experts in linux and do not already have linux machine at disposal.
Your solution is way better, even if it requires more powerfull router.

Maybe this is a good opportunity for someone to create a basic distribution that gets AMPRnet working on a RPi. 8G SD cards are incredibly cheap and ship well or someone can write the image directly on them. Maybe if it's packaged, profits could be sent to Brian for gateway maintenance/growth.
