Yes, ARDC are developing POPs that utilise VPN technology, and if all goes well I am sure that some users of the IPIP tunnels will likely migrate to the POPs, also newcomers to 44Net will find the POPs a much easier on-ramp than the IPIP system, so IPIP use may well reduce over time. To re-iterate ARDC have no plans to deprecate the IPIP infrastructure, ARDC will continue to support its use for as long as the membership is using it.
That's good to hear, because I'm happy with how my virtual LAN is working with my remote IPIP gateway. I think the VPN POPs are going to be great, but for my setup, I can also see a higher chance of suboptimal routing, compared to IPIP. As technology changes, however, I will review my interconnection.
