My bad, I missed the part that you were using Hessu's VPN server.
I have not tried that yet. Nor do I know how he has things configured.
I do run a OpenVPN server on my IPIP gateway. And as I mentioned; the OpenVPN server hands out a 44 address in my subnet and routes all 44 client traffic back to the OpenVPN / IPIP server and it works great.

Hello Steve,
OH7LZB's AMPRNet VPN is quite simple to configure&fire-up. It's well documented. Works great almost out-of-the-box. Myself I use it VERY OFTEN to reach 44-net from my Sony Z1 smartphone. Also, I installed it on my all Windows&Linux systems to be able to reach 44-net without need to use own AMPRNet gateway.
Just follow instructions given here: http://wiki.ampr.org/index.php/AMPRNet_VPN
