Hi,
Not sure the best person to approach for this but I belong to OARC a online amateur radio community which is mostly based on discord. We are a UK wide community open to all amateurs. We try and have regular club talks and wonder if there is someone willing to do a talk on AMPRnet as about 15 of our members are interested in what AMPRnet is. I have tried to explain best to them about it but would love to find someone who could give a better talk to try and help give some guidance on it. Our talks are normally held on Zoom.
A few members have asked questions but I feel if someone could give us a general talk it would help give some insight into what AMPRnet has to offer
I am happy to chat more off the list.

Hi Mitchell,
Thank you so much for reaching out!
I'd like to nominate either Jann Traschewski, who is the chair of our Technical Advisory Committee, or Chris Smith, who is the main administrator of the AMPRnet. Chris is based in the UK and Jann is based in Germany. Between their timezone compatibility and their history and knowledge of the AMPRnet, either one of them (or both) would be great resources.
I'll let them speak up if they are available.
Many thanks and 73, Rosy

A little bit off-topic, but : - Is Discord an open-source software ? - Can we install and host it on our own servers (on AMPRNet addresses, of course) ? - If not, is there any similar open-source software meeting those requirements ? That would be IMHO an idea of "services" we could provide on "New Generation Network" :-)

No, no, and I’m not aware of any. But nice idea and I’d love to find something like this!!

A while ago, when thinking about my multi-protocol VoIP framework, I had a look at Matrix. It's full open-source, written in Python. It seems to have a large ecosystem. An interesting thing is that it has "bridges" for many other concurrent/closed social network and messaging systems : https://matrix.org/bridges/
The code is clean and well documented, which is quite rare ;-)
Anyway, the VoIP is done through WebRTC protocol, which is not very low-level, and embeds mandatory cipher. Not something easy to interconnect with HAM VoIP. I didn't investigate further.
-- Here in France, too, there are lot of HAMs using groups on "public" networks : Discord, Facebook, Telegram, etc... Maybe hosting a HAM "social network" on 44Net is something to think about :-) This would allow interesting developments, f/ex messaging linked to DAPNET, or joining a VHF / DMR repeater through a web client.

Take a look at Zulip, an open source collaboration tool (zulip.org, source in github: https://github.com/zulip/zulip/).

I too would love to find a solution that is a multi-function system possible like a Slack, Teams, etc. I've checked out MattersMost but it's rather heavy weight.

rocket.chat isn't bas in terms of resource usage, though it's a bit of a pain to setup.

Not Discord, but Discourse.
Wikipedia: "Discourse is an open source Internet forum and mailing list management software application ..."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discourse_(software)
Digital Ocean has a one-click Discourse installer. I'll spin up a copy on one of my domain names, if you'd like to experiment with it.
I haven't used Discourse before now. I first made a note of it in 2013:
https://pinboard.in/search/u:sbw?query=discourse
Those notes remind me that the Sovrin Foundation was using Discourse for their community forum in 2018, but that forum is no longer active. I could reach out to my Sovrin contacts for their advice on Discourse, if that would be helpful.
