All,
The DNS servers that I copied the zones AMPR.ORG and 44.IN-ADDR.ARPA from, are no longer responding.
My DNS server at 44.60.44.3 (dns-mdc.ampr.org) is still up and available for client DNS resolution; but the AMPR.ORG and 44.IN-ADDR.ARPA zones are no longer local copies.
Just an FYI. If anyone else is running DNS, ensure that your AMPR.ORG and 44.IN-ADDR.ARPA zones are up-to-date.

Gosh, you wouldn't be kind enough to list which ones those are so that we can investigate the problem? - Brian

Brian,
They are:
74.120.14.69 (ns1.defaultroute.net); and 169.228.66.6 (hamradio.ucsd.edu)
My last successful AXFR was September 26, 2017.
Both appear as if they're no longer Globally authoritative nameservers for the domains. The other nameservers never completed AXFR successfully.

Correct, neither of those is a valid nameserver anymore. The old slave nameserver, hamradio.ucsd.edu, is being shut down, and there was no response to email to defaultroute.net advising them of that, so both were deleted from the nameserver list. - Brian

The master nameserver for AMPR.ORG and 44.IN-ADDR.ARPA is ampr.org, at 44.0.0.1. It allows AXFR transfers of both domains.
The complete list of nameservers for both domains is
ampr.org. ns2.threshinc.com. munnari.OZ.AU. a.coreservers.uk. ampr-dns.in-berlin.de.
I don't know if AXFR is permitted by any but the first. - Brian
