Greetings everyone!
I would like to first say that i am new to the Mailing list and this is my first email on this list.. If you wish to learn more about me and ham radio you can visit http://kc9zhv.com or http://lorentedford.com Technology wise i am involved heavily in Gaming Live Streaming and I rent a Rack Server from SoYouStart out of Canada a derivative of OVH Data Centers. I am curious if it is possible to route a /27 of ips to one single static ip from my web and email server that also handles my routing vpn services and many other things.. I use a specialized distro called Neth Server I am particularly running on Neth 6.8 for reliability reasons basically Centos or Red Hat distro..
So i suppose in closing how does everyone else route ip's around? Do you rent a server like i do and point it at the ip? I know in my Data center I have 14 dedicated public ipv4 ips to my disposal.
Also will they issue a /24? If so I could use it not only in combination with my 14 Allstarlink nodes but handle some of my echolink servers and stuff as well.. Maybe put up some Echolink Proxies for others to use its not like that takes up any processing power in Linux environment..
Anyway thanks for the time 73 for now
Welcome to the list Loren

Loren,
Did anyone get back to you about your inquiry?
As with most things in like there are many ways of skinning this cat. Lets address IP address space first; whilst I cannot speak about your local co-ordinator, most will give you the space you desire if you can show that you are using it.
As for how it arrives? I know a few folks that rent a cloud servers (myself, N2NOV and a few others) and we have the 44 block delivered to them using IP-IP tunneling. You can also have the 44 block delivered right to your door assuming you have the right firewall or router config (that's a whole topic in itself).
Using the 44 block for any and all ham radio related data activities is strongly encouraged. 44 block addresses show up in D-STAR, Ham Mesh, various email systems such as xNOS etc. As it happens, the 44 block also shows up on the NASDAQ test trading system!
There are many knowledgable folks on this list. Work out what and how you want to do it and I'm sure someone will be able to help you realise it.

Pierre,
No one really answered my question they just forwarded me to some generic wiki pages that discuss on how to handle your own routing and dns etc... Very basic stuff.. The question i have is.... Is it possible to forward a /27 or /24 of ips to one of my static ips in the data center where i can then use my routers and firewalls to reroute them.. I don't need to know how to do it from the linux end because this is already apart of our firewall system.. What i need to know is if you guys can point the /27 or /24 to an ip thats it.. All traffic routing from the /27 and /24 will be routed out through one ip at least that was my theory anyway.. I would like to test this if its allowed and over all i have 14 allstar nodes several other little things i have going on like servers that run the backup recordings for the two repeaters etc..
Thanks so much for your time again just want to know if its possible to get them routed to an ip where i can then mange things from that point..

Loren, The short answer is yes you can route a /24 via a direct connection. Long answer: 1. Find a data center / upstream ISP who is willing to broadcast a route for you. ISPs typically will only broadcast /24s or bigger subnets. 2. Get a Letter of Authorization (LoA) after you get an allocation from the AMPR portal. 3. Send the LoA to your upstream ISP who will then route the entire subnet to an endpoint of your choice. This is usually a firewall / router that you have in a data center. This could also be a single machine if you so desire. 4. ... 5. Profit? Not really. You can't profit from this. It's more of a hobby to sink money into.
Hope this helps. Your ISP should be able to help you as well. If there is something in particular, please feel free to ask. This group is filled with excellent resources but I think there is an understanding that you are familiar and comfortable with networking concepts.

Abhi,
Thanks so much for the response yea i deal with alot of hosting issues we rent a server out of SoYouStart Data Centers aka OVH Data Centers.. I use this for my personal stuff and was willing to dedicate some time and effort into handling some stuff through those locations.. Now as far as Profit gain?? What?? Who wants to make a profit?? I am so lost Profit was never apart of any of the ideas i had for anything associated with my project..
I guess I would have to get a LoA and see if they allow me to handle things through their broadcast servers or use another service of some sort.. I do pay for a dns provider maybe they would be willing to handle some of this not too sure would have to contact some one concerning that.. I use NameCheap for my domains because i like the advanced DNS side of things..
At this point i was going to use the ip's for all ham related activities.. One of my servers is dedicated to web and email along with vpn services and ip routing etc already.. If i can get ip to ip tunneling i think this might work for the /24 maybe provided i could get a /24..
Anyway i need to get back to working on some fail2ban issues gotta love email logs.. Take care everyone..

There are many knowledgable folks on this list. Work out what and how you want to do it and I'm sure someone will be able to help you realise it.

I advertise my /24 allotment via BGP on a server hosted with vultr.com and using VyOS. They are the only cloud provider (that I know of) that is willing to do this. It was a pain in the ass to setup with VyOS, but worth it. I use OpenVPN and tunnel as needed with 1:1 NAT.

Loren, The short answer is yes you can route a /24 via a direct connection. Long answer:
- Find a data center / upstream ISP who is willing to broadcast a
route for you.

Mark,
No one really answered my question they just forwarded me to some generic wiki pages that discuss on how to handle your own routing and dns etc...
Sorry for the miss read on this I have it corrected thanks Mark for reaching out..

Your first step, if you want direct routing, would be to contact the ISP and see if they would be willing to BGP your subnet /24 under their ASN.
If so, then get the LoA via AMRNet and then pass it to the ISP.

Yes, your local coordinator will issue a /24 if you are going to advertise the route to it directly to the backbone. You can't advertise less than a /24 (ie, a /27 won't work).
There are two ways for that subnet to be delivered to you. You may be able to get your ISP to advertise the route to the backbone and deliver the resulting subnet traffic to you directly, or you can contract with the HamWan group to have them do the BGP advertisement and route the traffic to you over a GRE tunnel. HamWan does not charge for this service; see their website for more information. - Brian

Thanks for the note here Brian.
As Brian mentioned, HamWAN offers a service we call OPP (Open Peering Policy), where we can help you BGP advertise your allocated space, and we’ll tunnel it to you. Our edges are in the Seattle area. If you can find a local ISP that will do it for you, great. If you’d like to chat with us about OPP, feel free to reach out to us at netops@hamwan.org mailto:netops@hamwan.org
