Thanks for the explanation, it helped clear up quite a few things I wasn't clear on.

And yes after I removed the line:

ip route add default dev tunl0 via 169.228.66.251 onlink table 44

I can reach hamwan.org. hambook.de.ampr.org and am able to accept connections from general internet IP's. So this was the secret for me. Thanks
