ARDC has now given 110k to ARISS. I've asked ARISS if they condone ARDC by accepting this fraudulently obtained funding.

Could you please refrain from sending this stuff to the 44-net mailing list?
Thanks.

Mr. Fields,
Please cease and desist from spreading unsubstantiated falsehoods until you have actual evidence and can cite specific laws or regulations that have been violated.
Just because things don’t go the way you want them to doesn’t mean they’re illegal.

I think it is very useful that someone monitors and reports here what is going on.

*ARDC is not a membership organization*. They don't have to poll the 'community' of users to make grants. You can track their grants here https://www.ampr.org/grants/. Their process is outlined here https://www.ampr.org/giving/.
However, accusations and unsubstantiated claims based on personal opinion are not facts.
The 'community' are the recipients of the benefits the ARDC provides, including address space.
We should keep this list focused on the development of the network.
I would suggest that another vehicle be chosen for personal issues. A separate gathering place is probably appropriate.

And this list is the Community… Somebody sent the league a notice so they could toot a horn or two.. Would it be that hard to CC the same message to this list as well.. IT Does happen to be on the network and the grants can and will effect us. This is the appropriate gathering place for the community after all.

Thanks for the update, Bryan. I would not have known about this without your message. It is odd that we don't see more discussion of these grant applications and grants here on the list. You would think it would be important enough to discuss. I guess these discussions are happening behind closed doors.

I second this. Thanks Bryan. As Tom said, we aren't hearing about this directly from ARDC's board on this list. I welcome the updates.

I suggest that those of you who are interested (the minority, I would estimate) should form your own list, if you are not motivated enough to go check the ARDC page that lists their grants.

Hello John, a sequence to find the grant text is:
1. View https://www.ampr.org/ 2. Click "contribute funding" 3. View https://www.ampr.org/giving/ 4. Read "Grants are not yet available. Do not apply at this time." 5. Click "A list of all awards to date is available by clicking here." 6. Read https://www.ampr.org/grants/ 7. Click "Next Generation Radio" 8. Read https://www.ampr.org/g2019-09-01a/
Is there a shorter sequence to locate the grant (request) texts from beginning at front page? (Or could one be added?)

This is interesting...as of today:

OK, that says, as you mention "Grants are not yet available. Do not apply at this time."
But this indicates that 2 grants have, in fact, been dispersed.
So...if nobody can apply for grants at this time, how did it work for TAPR and ARISS, exactly?
And since the 44/8 sale was announced on 2019-07-19 and the TAPR grant is listed on that page with a grant date of 2019-08-01, that's a duration of (8) business days in between. Seems like an awfully fast turn around from "bear with us, we have no process for you to even apply for grants, much less award anything yet!" to:
1) TAPR becomes aware of grants from ARDC 2) TAPR writes grant request and applies to ARDC 3) ARDC reviews grant request 4) ARDC awards TAPR $10k USD.
One wonders, then, if TAPR had advance knowledge of the availability of grants, or if their request got somehow fast-tracked because some animals are more equal than others?
Mind you, I have no problem with TAPR as an entity nor what they're doing with the award...just wondering how the process managed to unfold so quickly, especially since the grants page still tells everyone else not to bother applying yet.

For completeness, an earlier archive of the page:
http://web.archive.org/web/20190731074353/https://www.ampr.org/grants/
listed the date as:
2019-07-30; Dummy.org; Student Travel to DCC; $10,000; Multi-year
which was subsequently ammended:

Thank you for spotting and disseminating the grant to this list Bryan,
Hopefully, going forward, (members of) the board will proactively copy information to the 44net list as a matter of routine course. In the mean-time it's really useful to have these updates. Thank you.
Spent a bit of time reading and learning of the "Interoperable Radio System" as a result!...
ARISS / Interoperable Radio System: ===================================
Each unit will consist of a Kenwood TM-D710GA radio (separate "head" and "black box"), plus a custom-developed power supply, able to run off all of the assortment of power supply voltages found on the ISS (Russian, and US segments), whilst meeting the EMC requirements (and not backfeeding RF into the power system!). Each unit looks like:
https://twitter.com/AmsatUK/status/1052631476779569153
The units are being developed to fly on the International Space Station (ISS) in future:
http://www.arrl.org/news/ariss-moves-one-step-closer-to-flying-new-ham-equip... (2017-10-03)
As of 2017 the expected price for the programme had been, $150,000, so the injection of $110,000 via ARDC is the vast majority. Other contributions were obtained via:
https://www.ariss.org/donate.html
The existing Ham-band external antenna groups will continue to be used with the new hardware.

For those interested, $110k ~= a /19 or 8192 IPv4 addresses.
