I think this was a bad idea. - Brian On Sun, Sep 10, 2017 at 09:24:38PM -0400, Bill Horne wrote:

I have no issue with a Facebook as a service however I like to keep up with 44 whilst at work and a mailing list is acceptable use in the office whereas social media really isn't.

There are many serious problems with Facebook. It is as opposed to the concept of the open Internet as it can be.
Every user is entitled to decide on his/her privacy level of course. But the problem with Facebook is that it’s similar to the old problems with Metoosoft's Office programs: it’s forced down the users’ throats for “compatibility” reasons. Users who move discussions to Facebook inadvertently hijaak information for the benefit of Facebook.
So, if relevant discussions of this group (or any others) are moved to Facebook the rest are *forced* to be Facebook users like it or not unless they are ready to miss some important information.
Email mailing lists maybe are not the greatest, flashiest and triendiest of things. But they are *open*. Let’s not lose that open spirit, please!
