Hi there
Since yesterday I have a Raspberry Pi unit connected to Arduino doing MMDVM (a project that allow making digital repeater from two analog radios)
I know that a Gateway can be done with raspberry Pi
1) What exactly needed to be done (some software to add to what i have now ?) in order to deal with IPIP and make a gateway ?
can it run on RASPIAN ?
2) what about making TNC from Raspberry ? i know thare is a board that stick to it and make TNC ... Or (preferred) using the Internal sound card for making TNC ?
can this be done on Raspian ? and where can i get info how to do it ?
Thanks For any Info
Regards

http://n1uro.ampr.org/linuxconf/dotun.html will show you how.

If you're looking to use the built-in soundcard you will want to look at direwolf... or you can add-on a TNC-PI.
Hi there
The info here
http://n1uro.ampr.org/linuxconf/dotun.html will show you how.
is ok But it is recommended to add a section that deal with installing and configuring the IPIP (i didnt knew that default installation does not have IPIP by native and that it needed to be installed/
Now I have wrote mail to the PI TNC manufacturer here http://www.tnc-x.com/TNCPi.htm and asked him couple questions prior to buying one he said he is not expert in ham-radio so he could not answered all of them so I ask you (the one that have experience with this Card 1) is it support Jnos ? 2)can it be running as Packet --- Internet gateway (include Net-Rom and TCP/IP connectivity ? if yes where a appropriate software can be found and downloaded ? 3) the TNC does not support 9600 baud /// so is there any PI TNC that support 9600 ? or I should use external TNC for that ? TNC-Pi: TNC-X for Raspberry Pihttp://www.tnc-x.com/TNCPi.htm www.tnc-x.com The original TNC-Pi sits atop Raspberry Pi version B. The 9 pin D-sub connector interfaces to your radio. TNC-Pi is a special version of TNC-X ...

no experience of JNos
2)can it be running as Packet --- Internet gateway (include Net-Rom and TCP/IP connectivity ?
yes
if yes where a appropriate software can be found and downloaded ?
info from here < http://wiki.ampr.org/wiki/URONode >
also complete image for RPi from N1URO, F6BVP or G8BPQ website(s)

probably better to use external TNC for 9k6 although there has been talk of a 9k6 TNC-Pi.
Ronen,
I have nodes/BBS/DXCluster running on RPI with both URO and BVP images. They are straightforward to set up and represent a good starting point for anyone wishing to expand their knowledge in the use of linking RF with Internet connections. The TNC-Pi is also easily built and set up.

Ian..

I don't understand. IPIP is a kernel module in which by default is NOT loaded, but it IS installed. My dotun script loads the module and with calling just a very few variables loads everything you need to get on amprnet. Its in use world wide on hundreds of systems.

I just installed a TNC-X yesterday for MARS. I don't know about JNOS but for my URONode it was easier plug and play than anything out of Redmond!
So for your questions: 1) It *should* since URONode appears to embrace this TNC. 2) Yes. 3) Not at the moment. I have had discussions with the manufacturer in Dayton this year and they're close but not quite there yet.

Use a USB sound interface or a UDRC, download direwolf and create a configuration file. Direwolf supports multiple datarates and modes and decodes far better than most external TNC's. And with a stereo sound device or multiple ones it can handle two frequencies with one at 1200b and the other at 9600.

It can be done. I'm running IPIP with a routing daemon (ampr-ripd) on a Pi. I started looking at the wiki and followed a few links from there to get it all happening, from requesting the IP allocation to getting it all working. My ampr.net system runs on a Pi 2. I haven't started on the RF side yet, but plan to run a packet gateway.

Yes (I'm using Raspian Wheezy).

The internal sound is playback only on the Pi 1 and 2 series. I believe the Pi 3 might have a microphone, but said not to be a high quality input. You'd be most likely looking at a USB sound device. As for myself, I'm going to go down the TNC-Pi route. I think that will be the best route to take. Only annoyance with the TNC-Pi is they chose to use a 9 pin D connector instead of a mini-DIN (which would have allowed me to use a simple straight through cable). But that's just a minor annoyance.
dmr.vk4rcn.com is running mmdvm on 44net
