I'm not familiar with the Freebox. However, if you put your cable modem or DSL modem into bridge mode, you will need a router behind it, and the Raspberry PI works very well for that. Please read the wiki for some hints on how to use it.
Yes, the R-Pi works well for an AMPRnet router, I use one myself, though I don't have to put my router into bridge mode - using the DMZ facility passes IPIP encapsulation perfectly well. I can't speak for the "Freebox".
