The file is an alternative, but you're right, the retrieval mechanism is rather different, which means you can't just substitute host names in the existing scripts. It won't work for someone who isn't already connected. Oh well. - Brian

Existing munge scripts are written such that they don't need a 44 route and so that they download via FTP, both of which don't work with that scenario.
