Here in Australia, Telstra, the biggest telco here, and the owner of the bulk of telco infrastructure at the time installed an upgrade to their DSL DSLAMs early one Monday morning in the early 2000s. Something went horribly wrong and it took down every DSLAM in the country! And at the time, other than a couple of ISPs that had their own delivery infrastructure, all DSL in the country went down for something like 30-36 hours!
Working in IT, there was little I could do at the office at work, but at home, I had cable Internet from a major competitor which wasn't affected.
Yep, telcos can really screw up your day. ;)

Thanks for the update Chris Yep Does happen from time to time. I remember a Bore Hole driller in a town centre cut through most of the cables out side the local telephone exchange

Hi, I hope this email finds you well. There are some items still stored in the Bendigo East Hall that we believe belongs to you. Is there any chance you could contact the council and remove your items, if not we will dispose it for you. RegardsThanks Heidi, I'm wondering what items they would be.

Ok, so the Portal is offline.
I was in the process of moving it from it’s temporary home on the end of my home fibre to it’s new home in a data centre when our fibre went dark, openreach (the fibre supplier) have been digging up the road all day trying to find the problem.
Hmm, looks like Murphy's been having a field day! :)
