Hi,
Let me explain that /8.
The ucsd gateway tunnel is needed for 2 different things:
- first, the obvious, to route between amprnet and the internet. Here it
behaves transparently, sending everything via 169.228.66.251.
-the second, less obvious, is to get the RIP multicasts, using in our case
standard RIP behaviour.
Now for classic RIP, there are 2 ways to receive routes.
One way is to have unicast transmissions, where the RIP source sends the
data from its own IP to a specific destination IP.
The second way is to have multicasts, where the source sends its routes to
IP 224.0.0.9. This is what ampr-gw is using.
Now, for a RIP multicast to be accepted, the local IP AND the source IP have
to be in the same subnet, otherwise multicasts are dropped.
So, for any 44 address to be in the same subnet with 44.0.0.1 (the multicast
source), the interface has to use 44.x.x.x/8 (meaning subnet
44.0.0.0-44.255.255.255).
Otherwise, no RIP data is received by the mikrotik's ucsd tunnel interface.

Dear Marius
Thank you for your Kind help and quick response
You dont know how helpful it is to me that im not a Software Guy
I have (for moment) two questions
1) why IP adress for Interface is /8 and not /Whatever this gateway deal ?
2) what is the password mentioned in the script for the rip interface ?
password for what ? you say "get it from coordinator" Im the Coordinator
and im not aware of any Password ... Please clear for me this point
Im sure more questions will raise as i will progress but thats a start
Thanks Forward

First, read this:
http://www.yo2loj.ro/hamprojects/ampr-gw-README.txt
and do the setup scripts up to the point to running the script.
(Make sure you got rip routes with routing mark 44rip in RIP and the routing
table).

Hi there
After long time Its time to replace my Cisco with the MikroTik
The Cisco will go out soon from my home to the local repeater site and deal
with connecting our local P25 capable repeater with a worldwide amateur
repeaters network and in addition will deal with portion of the AMPRNET
network (hopefully will give the local amateurs 44 net feed Via High speed
2.4GHZ WIFI access point)
So the MikroTik will have to do what my Cisco does now and do the IPIP for
my network
I saw that there has been some changes to the automatic router Scripts in
the last few weeks and saw a note that one of the script consume memory and
Probably wouldn't run on my home router ... Due to small memory It have
So what Script i need to take now ? and where can i take it From ? and if
there is a small note how to run it
If needed it has 32M Memory and 16 M So called HDD (flash ?)
The Router is hap lite can bee seen here
