Thank you Edgar I look for Hardware solutions for making our gateways I know Cisco can serve as Gateway Now i start to understand that Microtik also can do it Do you know if anyone is doing a GateWay with Microtik ? if yes may I get the config to do IPIP for the 44 net ? Thanks Forward Ronen - 4Z4ZQ
I would not recommend Cisco or MikroTik to run an IPIP gateway. It is all much too complicated. Get a Linux box. Seriously. Or BSD when you like that better. With a few simple configuration steps you have an IPIP router that works automatically and does not need manual attention or complicated scripts to update its configuration all the time.
MikroTik is ideal for use as internal router in a radio network: point-to-point links and user accesses, and running BGP on the private AS numbers. That is not the same as running BGP towards internet!
To announce BGP subnets on internet I would recommend to get this service from an ISP. They know this matter because they use it to advertise their own subnets, and a good ISP can advertise your subnet to internet and statically route the traffic to your router.

There is an additional requirement: before you can have your subnet advertised to the Internet with BGP you must have permission from the network owner, Amateur Radio Digital Communications. You can apply for that by sending me an email. - Brian
Thank you all As i have mentioned before Im not a Software guy i dont know to compile or to configure the system to work as a gateway (i assume i can install it to work as a pure linux but no more then this) Beside i prefer a Cisco Box that consider very reliable sure more reliable then a PC that today the Power supply stop working and tomorrow the hard disk crash and next week the motherboard burn . As for BGP im not intend to use BGP but certainly use router as IPIP tunnel box . Regards Ronen - 4Z4ZQ http://www.ronen.org

When doing my first tests, I had the same idea with SonicWALL routers, because I have dozens, and I know them perfectly. That was not a good idea. Those are targeted for business, they are not versatile enough for amateur operations.
IMHO, nothing beats a Linux box. Of course, there's a learning curve. But when you know the basics, it's an amazing system, for hamradio and many other purposes. Think about a Lego system : hundreds of Open Source "bricks" already exist all over the world. You just have to find them, and to assemble them the way you want. Don't be afraid, because there are thousands of tutorials available for merely any potential sutiation. And mailing lists, where people will be happy to help ;-)
About hardware, Linux can be run on a variety of systems, from a $30 Raspberry Pi to a highly redundant multiprocessor enterprise server, or in the cloud. You can adapt the target platform to your needs and budget.
Have a try ! You won't be disappointed !
PS: You kan keep a Cisco, or a SonicWALL, at the perimeter of your network, to be sure you won't do huge mistakes about security. That's what I'm doing.
Hi there Is there any special justification why a Person should see all the networks even ones that are not belong to him in the "add network" ? For example my country allocated 44.138/16 Why should i see other network when i try to add a network to my gateway ? after all the portal know exactly (from my login) who I am and what network belong to my country same as when i ask for network it know exactly to what coordinator to send the request for I think closing the option to allocate networks that not belong to the region in the portal can be a good option Regards Ronen - 4Z4ZQ http://www.ronen.org
Hi Ronen,
The portal used to only show networks assigned to you, but too many people asked for this to be changed some time ago, because they are announcing other people's networks on their gateway.
