Hi,
Any news about support for Dynamic IP Gateways yet without having to pester other Gateways having static IPs via AXUDP links?

The portal supports dynamic IP gateways already. There is a field for IP address or hostname. If you enter a hostname the IP address is looked up each time the encap is requested.

Is this is also reflected in the encap.txt what you can download from the robot?
a) So every time before I start a download by ftp the dynamic host names are checked and the encap.txt is adapted? b) And what about the RIP broadcasts, how many times a day are these updated?

The RIP broadcasts use the current contents of the database, so whenever the IP addresses in the DB are updated the RIP data reflect the changes almost immediately. - Brian

Hi all,
Thanks for info. Our Gateway here in Athens will be up and running again, hopefully, very soon.
Hi Bob,
Is this is also reflected in the encap.txt what you can download from the robot?
There is one central database that all forms of the encap file are generated from.
a) So every time before I start a download by ftp the dynamic host names are checked and the encap.txt is adapted?
No, you just download the latest version present. I meant whenever you request it from the portal.
There is a cron job that runs every 5 minutes that checks for changes and will update the encap.txt file in the FTP directory. It only updates it if something has changed. There is another cron job that runs once an hour that resolves any hostnames present to IP addresses.
So worst case, the IP address of the gateway could be an hour out of date via FTP.
b) And what about the RIP broadcasts, how many times a day are these updated?
These are read directly from the database, so reflect the database contents pretty much realtime.
Regards, Chris
On the quiet I've been testing this for a few years. Indeed, if you look my gateway you'll find it points to a dyndns.org address.
I would not say that the system "supports" dynamic IP but it works well. On Feb 1, 2013 5:31 PM, "Demetre SV1UY" demetre.sv1uy@gmail.com wrote:
