*Hi Everyone,*
*
As you are all aware, we have a significant amount of outstanding tickets in the Portal related to address verification. In an effort to expedite the process of resolving these tickets and thus getting users up and running with their address space in a more timely manner, we are only going to ask for address verification if you are requesting a BGP allocation.
If you have previously requested address verification and are not requesting a BGP allocation, your outstanding tickets will be removed, and thus no action is needed on your end.
We hope this update is helpful in streamlining the process for utilizing the Portal. As always, please reach out if you have any questions and/or need clarifications.

It is not so simple as that Rebecca because the trust level specifies how many addresses you can you can request for your IPv4 sub-net in there, even if it is for the IPIP linked network. This is most likely why people ask for address verification in the first place! The whole thing is remarkable in the first place, I'm 36 years on amprnet, have multiple /24 and smaller sub-nets and my ipv4 limit is set to 28. This means that the maximum IPv4 that I can request is a /28 sub-net and that is all because my address is not verified as yet. That is the reason why I don't want that my ticket is dropped.

It seems there is some misinformation, or at least incorrect assumptions, about how the level of trust works on the new portal. Hands up, we have not communicated a lot of specific information about it, so it’s probably not a surprise that folks have come to their own conclusions, allow me to clarify the question over address verifications and Level of trust points:
The LoT points system is just a number, the number doesn’t currently relate directly to any specific “number of IPs allowed” or any other level of access on the portal. As such it is a flexible system that can be applied to specific levels of access, it just hasn’t yet been decided exactly what number maps to what access. The TAC have been working on this and have recently recommended that, at least for now, we adopt a simplified system:
When you first register you must verify your email address before you can do anything except access your own profile and delete your account; If you want access to request IP addresses or the DNS management functions you need to verify your call sign; Anyone can place a request for address space of any type and any size once your call sign has been verified; If you are requesting up to a /25 your request will be approved if you have provided your given name, family name on your profile and have verified your email & call sign; If you are requesting a /24 or larger (including BGP) then you must have also verified your postal address.
So the last point above is why we have decided to remove the several hundred address verification requests that are not related directly to larger / BGP address requests.
As always, I am happy to answer any questions on this, but please, let’s keep it professional and respectful, the TAC and ARDC staff have been working very hard over the past few weeks under difficult circumstances, please respect this.

Thank you very much for the clarification.
I think the new portal would benefit greatly from the documentation being updated to match reality instead of aspirations. I'm sure everyone on 44net is familiar with the necessity to break eggs to make omelettes. But technical people like to know what's going on...
I appreciate your hard work. Thank you for everything you do.

Thank you Philip. We are fully intending to update/complete the documentation, unfortunately recent events have overtaken us and we are a bit behind.
As some folks have offered help - this is one thing that anyone interested in helping can do: It is clear that the new portal is not as “self intuitive” as it could be, so if you identify a page that you feel needs more information adding to make it clearer, please do send in your suggestions - it can be as simple as “page xxx needs more explanation about item yyy” or you can send in a ready made full text description of what needs adding to the page. Please email to newportal@ardc.net

What about those of us who already have BGP allocations (predating the new portal)? In theory, our addresses should already be verified (I seem to remember emailing a scan of my licence as part of the process -- it's been a while), and the portal merely needs to reflect this.

I was thinking the same thing, but decided to wait until the dust settled a bit before raising this issue.

This would be difficult on several levels - We don’t retain any PII such as scanned in licenses etc, so we have no way of checking how details were verified previously; there also has been no SOP on how to verify a member’s details in the past, so the verification process has been extremely varied depending on who did the verification, if indeed any was done at all. I have tried to be consistent in my approach to this over the last couple of years, but beyond that it is a complete unknown.
This is why the new portal now has this baked in, so the process is transparent and consistent and the folks carrying out the process are trained and understand what needs to be done.
